Usually, when we dig the earth, we are searching for gold or uranium. It comes at a time when gold miners are overusing us to find an alternative for mineral gold. Digging mountains for gravel became an alternative to gold, while working on breaking rocks becomes challenging compared to the age wasted by it. In the meantime, seeing other kids makes a difference by going to school or being supported by their relatives fortunate enough to send their kids to school for a better tomorrow. It is becoming life-threatening and mental torment whether to continue being a gold digger slave or to find a way for freedom.
(more…)The most critical time of a human being’s development is their early childhood. A human being’s actions are shaped by events that happen very early in their life. From the age of zero to seven years old, it is said that the character of a human is entirely developed, and their actions from that point onward are a direct result of their experiences from that timeframe. Aristotle, one of the greatest philosophers to have ever lived, had once quoted, “Give me a child until he is seven, and I will show you the man.” This can be supported by the biological facts of a human being. It has been documented that all human beings are born prematurely compared to most other animal species. This means that a human has to leave a mother’s womb before their brains are fully developed, which leaves them extremely dependent on their parents after they leave the womb. Humans are more dependent on their parents than most other animal species.
(more…)International communities often believed that funding capacity was uniform across national organizations. The funding for humanitarian aid and sustainable development to South Sudan is US$ 1.35bn in a year 2019. Only seventeen (17) national organizations out of 168 National NGOs receive funding. Where do the other rest of NGOs go to get funds?! It is a million-dollar question.
In 2019, The World Humanitarian Summit (WHS) marked a watershed moment to lay out five major areas for action and change, the 5 Core Responsibilities needed to address and reduce humanitarian need, risk, vulnerability, and 24 key transformations that will help achieve them. More than 15 significant donors continue their commitment to channeling 25% of humanitarian funding to national and local organizations. This ‘Grand Bargain’ acknowledged that the humanitarian deficit, combined with an increase in the number and severity of crises, requires a new humanitarian response approach.

This scenario illustrates some of the most prevalent ways in how technology, powered by things like Electrical engineering, will change everyday life as we know it.

(more…)I want to thank BC Global for the fantastic opportunity they have given to me to speak on behalf of the young women of South Sudan. My name is Estella Kaku, and I am 15 years old in the 9th grade of high school. Because of Coronavirus, all schools were closed, the students have to take the assignment home and returned it to school since there is no electricity or public internet. As a teenage girl, I am grateful for the technology that has allowed me to share young women’s concerns through this platform from a distance across the world.

Key priorities:
In most communities in South Sudan, girls are considered as marital assets and are not encouraged to participate in social and economic livelihood of the community. They are marginalized of their rights to education, ownership and choice. Other communities practice cultural taboos that strictly forbids the girls and women from participation and these include, but not limited to eating certain foods, participation in sporting and education activities.
(more…)Message on the International Youth Day 2020
I would want to take this opportunity to salute all youth in South Sudan and the world in this very important day. It is a day that the South Sudanese youth are willing to celebrate in a peaceful and progressing environment. It is a day when the marginalized youth would want showcase their innovations and creativeness in the different sectors of the economy.
Frankly speaking, the youth are faced with myriad challenges and they lack opportunities ranging from education, health, employment and participation in both the private and public sectors. The South Sudanese youth aren’t like any other youth in the world, but rather used as assets for civil war, inter and intra-communal fights and cattle raiding in most communities. In respect to the cyclical conflicts, most youth have physically become impaired or lost lives in the process. Many are in refugee settlements in neighbouring countries or protection of civilian sites (PoCs).
