The most critical time of a human being’s development is their early childhood. A human being’s actions are shaped by events that happen very early in their life. From the age of zero to seven years old, it is said that the character of a human is entirely developed, and their actions from that point onward are a direct result of their experiences from that timeframe. Aristotle, one of the greatest philosophers to have ever lived, had once quoted, “Give me a child until he is seven, and I will show you the man.” This can be supported by the biological facts of a human being. It has been documented that all human beings are born prematurely compared to most other animal species. This means that a human has to leave a mother’s womb before their brains are fully developed, which leaves them extremely dependent on their parents after they leave the womb. Humans are more dependent on their parents than most other animal species.

“Helpless in their mother’s arms, the infant seems incapable of learning. In fact, the baby is at the most absorptive stage and totally open to external influences. From birth, they learn to stand, to talk, and to think. Becoming able to stand upright, to speak, and to think are remarkable achievements in a period of three or four years. And the young child does this without the benefit of formal instruction through a combination of latent ability, instinct, and, above all, imitation. Imitation is the special talent that characterizes the period up to the age of six or seven. The young child mimics everything in the environment uncritically-not only the sounds of speech, the gestures of people, but also the attitudes and values of parents and peers.” Imitation is how humans become who they are. This is why a child’s environment and the people that a child is imitating are critical to consider when it comes to raising the youth.

The problem with the youth in underdeveloped areas is that they don’t have the proper training to become peaceful, intelligent members of society. The child is raised in environments where violence and self-destruction are encouraged. The children raised by the parents in poorly developed areas have no awareness of raising their youth because they imitate the people from their past. The puzzling actions of areas that we are concerned about can be explained through the bad imitations instilled by little children. The troubled youth misbehave because they had to imitate the people in their environment in order to survive.

Although the prospects of saving the youth can seem daunting, the solutions are pretty simple. To protect the youth, they must first be exposed to people that can teach them the proper way to live. The child must learn to copy people of a more peaceful nature who enjoy educating themselves and bettering their community. In terms of the youth, street boys, and homeless that past the age of seven, although they can be harder to influence, they can be changed by encouraging them to be involved in youth activities, establish reformatory schools/centers, and create community clubs. The youth activities that can be of use for older youth children include protecting the environment or a program that can break their habits of destructive behavior. Schools in areas where there aren’t any schools could also benefit the youth, and the youth can be encouraged to come to school by giving children extra rewards for attending school and learning. Community clubs that are similar to clubs like the Boys and Girls Club can also be helpful for the youth that don’t have anywhere but the streets to hang out.

Through the use of technology, living can become more accessible, and as a result, the likelihood of committing violence against others and themselves can be significantly reduced. The use of technology to help create better environments can come faster by developing the youth more intelligently. I believe a child who lives in a harmful environment can be set in a group environment with well-accomplished people who have created more accessible ways for humans to live.   Although the solution is simple, the implementation is challenging, but taking that first difficult step in the right direction can lead to many incredible things.

Thanks for your admiration. We are now in the implementation process of some of the proposed ideas. First, we were able to accommodate the street boys, girls, and child soldiers back to their normal lives through sports training via the Future Star Football Academy. For women, we provide them with microloans to start small businesses by selling crops in the marketplaces and vocational training to dropout girls especially those young women in the refugees camp in Northern Uganda in catering, hair styling, and sewing machine training programs.
